Hippo Hat - 3 sizes - FREE Crochet Pattern

Start:

With Pink yarn do 11 ch.

Round 1:

3 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in next 6 ch, 7 dc in next ch, working now in the opposite side of the foundation ch, 1 dc in next 6 ch, 3 dc in next ch, join with 1 sl st in next ch (first st of this round) (25 sts).

Round 2:

3 ch (count as 1st dc) and 1 dc in the same st, 2 dc in next 3 dc, 1 dc in next 6 dc, 2 dc in next 7 dc, 1 dc in next 6 dc, 2 dc in next 3 dc, 1 sl st in next top ch (40 sts).

· To make the nose, with Black yarn, do two stitches on the right and left side of the snout. Fasten off.

Start:

With White yarn create a Magic Ring with 2 sc, 1 hdc, 2 sc and 1 hdc. Join the Magic Ring with 1 sl st.

· With Black thread, sew a black button on the eye, near the edge. Repeat this process with the other eye spot. Fasten off.

Start:

With Purple yarn create a Magic Ring with 6 sc.

Round 1:

2 sc in each sc (12 sts).

Round 2:

1 sc in each sc (12 sts).

· You must bend the ear a little, at the bottom and make several stitches to secure it.

Start:

With Pink yarn do 11 ch.

Round 1:

Round 3:

2 ch (count as 1st hdc) and 1 hdc in the same st, * 1 hdc in next dc, 2 hdc in next dc * repeat one more time. 1 hdc in next 9 dc, * 1 hdc in next dc, 2 hdc in next dc * repeat 5 more times, 1 hdc in next 8 dc, * 2 hdc in next dc, 1 hdc in next dc * repeat 2 more times, 1 sl st in next top ch (52 sts).

· To make the nose, with Black yarn, do two stitches on the right and left side of the snout. Fasten off.

· You must bend the ear a little, at the bottom and make several stitches to secure it.

· Now sew the ears on the hat. Place them centered, in round 4th. For your reference the ears have a distance of 8 sts between them. Fasten off.

· Then, sew the bow at the base of the left ear. Fasten off.
