Basic Motif

Start:

With Main Color yarn create a Magic Ring with 1 ch and 6 sc. Join the Magic Ring with 1 sl st in first ch.

Round 1:

2 ch (count as first dc) and 1 dc, 3 ch, 2-dc cluster stitch in first sc, * 2-dc cluster stitch, 3 ch, 2-dc cluster stitch in next sc * repeat 4 more times. Join this round with 1 sl st in top ch.

Round 2:

Change to Secondary Color yarn. 1 ch, 1 sc in next dc, * 3 ch, 2-dc cluster stitch in previous sc just made, 1 sc in next 3 ch space, 3 ch, 2-dc cluster stitch in previous sc, skip next cluster stitch, 1 sc in next cluster stitch * repeat 4 more times, 3 ch, 2-dc cluster stitch in previous sc, 1 sc in next 3ch space, 3 ch, 2-dc cluster stitch in previous sc. Join this round with 1 sl st in top ch. If you are going to make the Motif with the two Ties, leave yarn attached, don’t fasten off because you will have to do the ties.

You have completed the first Basic Motif. Now let’s do the two Ties.

If your not going to do both Ties, you must fasten off when finish round 2.

First Tie

Be careful not to spin your work. * 4 ch and 1 dc in 4th ch from hook * repeat 12 more times, 4 ch, 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (this ch will be the Main Chain), 2 ch and 1 sl st in Main Chain (look at the chart to help), 3 ch, 1 dc in Main Chain, 2 ch, 1 sl st in Main Chain, 3 ch, 1 dc in Main Chain, 2 ch and 1 sl st in Main Chain. Fasten off.

Second Tie

To make the Second Tie, attach new Secondary Color yarn. Then insert the hook at the sc of the Motif shown in the graph. Then yarn over, draw yarn through the stitch and do * 4 ch and 1 dc in 4th ch from hook * repeat 12 more times, 4 ch, 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (this ch will be the Main Chain), 2 ch and 1 sl st in Main Chain (look at the chart to help), 3 ch, 1 dc in Main Chain, 2 ch, 1 sl st in Main Chain, 3 ch, 1 dc in Main Chain, 2 ch and 1 sl st in Main Chain.

You can repeat ** of the Ties more times to make them longer.

Joining two Basic Motifs

Two Motifs are joined by two stitches. These stitches correspond to the second ch of the 6th and 7th wave of the Motif.

Take the Motif that you want to join, in round 2, wave 6, do 1 ch, insert the hook 2nd ch of wave of the other finished Motif, 1 sl st, 1 ch and 2-dc cluster stitch in previous sc. Repeat this process to make the wave 7. Then the pattern continues in the normal way.
